Nowadays, there are many subfields and careers within the field of psychology. The jobs for the psychologists vary and you can choose one that is appropriate to your degree and your specific interests. Before, the jobs for psychologists are only limited to performing psychotherapy or in teaching. Even though these jobs are still very much available these days, there are now more types of jobs within and related to psychology. Employment for the psychologists is available in mental health and social services for those specializing in clinical psychology, counseling, and social work. Educational and school settings employ psychologists who specialize in school counseling, school psychology, and educational psychology. The local state and government employ social service managers, psychosocial specialists, and rehabilitation counselors. Applied psychology careers include industrial-organizational psychologists, forensic psychologists, and human factors psychologist. Choosing an area of specialty can be difficult, which is why it is highly recommended that aspiring psychologists should choose the one that would suit their interests and abilities best. Psychology jobs may require the aspirant to obtain either a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or a doctoral degree in psychology. The license will depend on the area of specialty and the state where the aspirant wants to practice. There will also be differences on the psychologist salary and the duties that the psychologists perform in their chosen area of specialty.
